Eaton House
historic place
The Eaton House, located at 510 Harvard Street in Houston, Texas, was constructed in 1910. This one-story, frame, raised cottage features Colonial Revival styling. Its design includes a hipped roof with a shingled central gable with a stained glass window. The attached porch is supported by Doric columns and has square balusters. The single front door contains art glass, sidelights, and a transom. The original owner was Dr. W. H. Eaton, a local dentist. Dr. Eaton was known in the Heights for operating the Heights Natatorium, a popular gathering place. The Eaton House is situated in Houston Heights, an area developed in 1891 by the Omaha and South Texas Land Company. Houston Heights was once an independent municipality before its annexation by the City of Houston in 1918. The Eaton House was individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1983. This designation recognizes its architectural style and its association with Dr. Eaton within the historic Houston Heights community.
