Eppes, Ned A. and Linda S., House
historic place
The Ned A. and Linda S. Eppes House is located in Houston, Texas, within Harris County. This historic place was constructed in 1926 in the new Jandor Gardens neighborhood. Concrete manufacturer Ned A. Eppes and his family were the original occupants, on land purchased by Linda S. Eppes. The house was notable as one of Houston's earliest residences built with concrete materials. Its design is an Italian Renaissance villa-inspired block house, featuring a stucco finish and an elaborate Spanish Mission door surround. These architectural elements were considered unusual until the 1930s. Independent architect John McClelland and the firm of Brickey, Wiggins and Brickey are credited with the house's design. The Eppes House was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1998. It stands as an early example of concrete residential construction and a distinctive architectural style in Houston.
