Farnsworth & Chambers Building
historic place
The Farnsworth & Chambers Building, located in Houston, Texas, was completed in 1957. It served as the headquarters for the Farnsworth and Chambers construction company. Houston architects MacKie and Kamrath designed the building in a modernist style. From 1962 to 1964, this building became the first Houston home for NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center. During this time, the remaining Mercury flights were planned here. The building is also known as the Gragg Building. In 1976, the Gragg family sold the building and surrounding property to the City of Houston. Since 1977, it has housed the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department headquarters. This site is historically significant for its architecture and its connection to early American space exploration.
