historic place

The house at 112 West 4th Street in Houston, Texas, is a notable historic place. This two-story, wood-frame house was built circa 1903. It showcases the Queen Anne architectural style. The residence features a hipped roof and a projecting shingled front gable. An L-shaped, two-story gallery is supported by turned posts. The gallery is further adorned with flat-cut brackets and sawtooth fretwork on its eaves. The house was individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1984. It was also initiated for designation as a Landmark of the City of Houston in 2006. This property is considered well-preserved, especially given its location near industry. Its design is characteristic of the early detailed houses constructed in the Houston Heights neighborhood around the turn of the 20th century. Houston Heights itself was established in 1891 and was once an independent municipality. The house at 112 West 4th Street provides an example of early 20th-century residential architecture in Houston Heights.
