Houston Bar Center Building
historic place
The Houston Bar Center Building is located at 723 Main Street in downtown Houston, Harris County. This historic place originated as two separate ten-story towers, constructed in 1913 and 1915. Houston businessman Jesse H. Jones developed these initial structures, which were designed by architect Alfred C. Finn. In 1966, the two buildings underwent an extensive remodeling and transformation. Architect Eugene William Slater redesigned them into a single tower, featuring a New Formalist architectural style. This redesign incorporated materials such as granite and marble. Following its renovation, the building was renamed for the Houston Bar Association, which became its first tenant. The Houston Bar Center Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 26, 2017. It serves as an example of mid-twentieth-century architectural modernization in downtown Houston.
