Houston Fire Station No. 3
historic place
Houston Fire Station Number 3, a historic place in Harris County, was constructed in 1903. The building is located at 1919 Houston Avenue. It was designed by architect Olle J. Lorehn, who was known for his turn-of-the-century work in Houston. This station is the only historic fire station remaining in the First Ward. It is also one of the few surviving examples of late-Victorian-era civic architecture from a period when Houston was expanding its salaried fire department. Known historically as "Stonewall," the station's motto, "Trust in Us," is etched into its stone exterior. In its early years, firefighters here used horse-drawn wagons and steamers to combat fires. The station served the Houston Fire Department until 1937, when it was sold. On February 28, 2017, Houston Fire Station Number 3 was officially listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Today, the building operates as an event venue. Its enduring structure provides a direct connection to Houston's early fire service and architectural heritage.
