historic place

Houston Fire Station No. 7, in Harris County, is a historic place. Designed by architect Olle J. Lorehn, this building was completed in January 1899. It is Houston's oldest firehouse still standing. This station was the first built after the Houston Fire Department became a fully paid department in 1895. The two-story brick structure features rusticated stone details and a central arched entry. It remained in active service for 69 years, until 1968. In 1986, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1988, it became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. Since 1982, the building has housed the Houston Fire Museum. The site is historically important for its architectural design and its long service to the city.
