Houston Municipal Airport Terminal
historic place
The Houston Municipal Airport Terminal, located in Harris County, opened on September 28, 1940. This historic place was designed by architect Joseph Finger. The building showcases the Streamline Moderne architectural style, a distinctive design popular during its era. It served as Houston's primary commercial air terminal, handling a significant increase in air travel, until 1955. The terminal played a vital role in the flight history of both Houston and the United States. Recognizing its importance, the Texas Historical Commission determined the building eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The City of Houston designated it a Protected Landmark in 2006, and it was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 6, 2019. The Houston Municipal Airport Terminal remains a significant example of early 20th-century aviation architecture and its impact on the city's development.
