The Houston Post, a significant newspaper in Houston, Texas, began on February 19, 1880, founded by Gail Borden Johnson. After an initial period, it was re-established on April 5, 1885. Business manager J.L. Watson introduced advanced linotype printing machines. Short story writer O. Henry worked for the Post in the mid-1890s. In 1924, Ross S. Sterling acquired the paper, which later became The Houston Post in 1932. The William P. Hobby family owned the paper for four decades starting in 1939. The Houston Post printed its final edition on April 18, 1995, after being purchased and closed by the Hearst Corporation. This newspaper provided a local record of Houston's 20th-century history for over a century.
