James L. Autry House

historic place

The James L. Autry House is a historic place in Houston, Harris County. This Neoclassical Revival home was constructed in 1912. Sanguinet and Staats, with Alfred C. Finn, designed the residence. James L. Autry was chief counsel for The Texas Company, later Texaco, and a pioneer in petroleum law. The house features a double balustraded gallery, large fluted Doric columns, a porte-cochere, a fernery, and a hipped Ludowici tile roof. A historical marker was erected here in 2010. The James L. Autry House reflects architectural elegance and the career of an important figure in the Texas oil industry.
