Jones-Hunt House

historic place

The Jones-Hunt House, located at 24 Courtlandt Place in Houston, Harris County, is recognized as a historic place. Designed by architect Alfred C. Finn, this two-story brick residence was constructed between 1919 and 1921. It incorporated elements from an earlier 1890 Victorian house. The house was built for Sarah Brashear Jones, whose family were early Houston settlers. Sarah Brashear married Colonel James Warren Jones, a lawyer who served in the Texas State Senate. The couple was prominent in Houston's political and social life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Jones-Hunt House remained in the same family for over 70 years. The Houston City Council designated the Jones-Hunt House as a historic landmark on September 2, 2009. It is also individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contributes to the Courtlandt Place Historic District. The house reflects the architectural quality characteristic of Courtlandt Place, one of Houston's early and exclusive subdivisions.
