Macatee, Leonard W., House

historic place

The Leonard W. Macatee House in Houston, Texas, is a historic place in Harris County. This Mediterranean-style residence was completed around 1915. It was designed by the architectural firm of Green and Finger. The house is named for its original owner, Leonard W. Macatee, a successful building supply merchant. Macatee, along with his brother, took over their father's company, Macatee & Sons, which prospered during Houston's early 20th-century building boom. The Macatee House was one of the earliest homes built in the Southmore neighborhood, an area now known as the Museum District or Midtown. It was even featured in a 1917 brochure promoting the developing Hermann Park and Rice Institute sections of Houston. The house is recognized for its architectural significance as an excellent example of early 20th-century Mediterranean style. Specific historical marker text for this property is not available.
