Milroy House
historic place
The Milroy House, a historic place in Houston, Texas, is located at 1102 Heights Boulevard. Built in 1898, this two-and-a-half-story frame house was the home of John Milroy, a central figure in the early development of Houston Heights. Milroy, an early investor in the Omaha and South Texas Land Company, moved into the house with his family in 1898. He served as mayor of Houston Heights for eight terms, from 1899 to 1907. Architecturally, the Milroy House exemplifies late-Victorian design, showcasing gables, bays, and fish-scale shingling. It retains its original carriage house. The house was often featured in promotional materials for Houston Heights. Recognized for its historical importance, the Milroy House was designated a Recorded Texas Historical Landmark in 1979 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Descendants of the Milroy family resided here until 1979. This residence stands as one of the earliest and most impressive 19th-century homes on Heights Boulevard.
