Milroy, John, House
historic place
The John Milroy House, in Houston, Harris County, Texas, was built in 1898. John Milroy and his family moved into the house that same year. Milroy was an early investor and manager for the Omaha and South Texas Land Company, which developed Houston Heights. He served as an alderman and mayor of the community from 1899 to 1907. The house showcases late-Victorian frame architecture, featuring gables, bays, and fish-scale shingling. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1979 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The John Milroy House is significant as an early Houston Heights residence and for its association with a key figure in the area's development.
