Minchen, Simon and Mamie, House
historic place
The Simon and Mamie Minchen House stands at 1753 North Boulevard in Houston, Texas. In 1930, real estate investor and oil and gas pioneer Simon Minchen, born in 1886, and his wife Mamie Pesses, born in 1887, purchased this lot. Houston architect Joseph Finger designed the house, and contractor W. J. Goggan completed it in 1931. This house is a rare example of Italian Renaissance architecture in Houston. It exhibits a clay tile roof and arched windows and doors. The Minchen House became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1999 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Its architectural style and continuous occupancy by the Minchen family contribute to its historical importance.
