Mulcahy House, Houston, Texas

historic place

The Mulcahy House, located in Houston's Harris County, is a historic place. William Percival Mulcahy and his wife, Mattie, purchased this home from the developers of Houston Heights in 1909. Mr. Mulcahy began his career as a teller with the South Texas Commercial Bank. He later became president of Damon State Bank, a position he held at his death in 1923. The Mulcahy House remained in the family for 90 years. This Dutch Colonial Revival-style home features a distinctive T-shaped cross gambrel roof with a front-facing projecting gambrel and minimal eave overhang. It is constructed with a native cypress-clad frame. The inset front porch is supported by square, paneled posts and includes a central bay window with 40 lights over one. The Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker for the Mulcahy House in 2014, recognizing it as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. The house is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, noted for its architectural significance.
