Nairn, Forrest A., House

historic place

The Forrest A. Nairn House, a historic place in Houston's Harris County, stands at 1148 Heights Boulevard. This brick bungalow was constructed in 1924. Its design includes two squat hipped roof dormers and decorative vents, with end-wall chimneys on the north and east facades. Inside, the house features craftsman built-in elements. The Nairn House is significant as one of the few brick residences built in the Houston Heights during the early 20th century. The Nairn family occupied the home for 61 years. A rear kitchen was added in 1929, finished in red brick to match the original style. This addition was the only modification to the original structure, which retains a high degree of integrity. The Forrest A. Nairn House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1991. This site provides a look into the residential architecture and enduring family presence in early 20th-century Houston.
