Old Houston National Bank

historic place

The Old Houston National Bank building stands at the corner of Main and Franklin Streets in downtown Houston, Texas. This historic place was constructed in 1928. Architects Hedrick and Gottlieb designed it in the Neo-Classical Doric style. The Houston National Bank, first chartered in 1889, moved into this new facility. The building was considered one of Houston's most impressive bank structures, reflecting the city's banking wealth. Its exterior features a polished black granite base and eight fluted columns. Inside, the main banking hall includes a central rotunda, rising fifty-six feet. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. It now houses the Islamic Da'wah Center. This structure represents a significant period in Houston's architectural and financial history.
