Parker, John W., House
historic place
The John W. Parker House in Houston, Harris County, is a historic place. This two-story Tudor Revival style house was built in 1925. Architect John F. Staub designed the home, which features a steeply pitched roof, a brick façade with raised patterns, paired casement windows, and a tall chamfered chimney. The house was the residence of John Wilson Parker, born in 1861, and Bessie Coelhite Smith Parker, born in 1865. They married in Taylor in 1881. John Wilson Parker was admitted to the bar in 1881 and served as an alternate justice to the Supreme Court of Texas in 1899 and 1902. The Parker family came to Houston in 1903, where John became a partner in a law firm. Bessie Coelhite Smith Parker was a charter member of the Houston Public School Art League. A historical marker was erected at the John and Bessie Parker House in 2011, designating it a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. This site is significant for its architectural style and its association with the Parker family, who contributed to Houston's legal and cultural life.
