Schauer Filling Station

The Schauer Filling Station, once located at 1400 Oxford Street in Houston's Heights neighborhood, was completed in 1929. It stood as one of the area's earliest gas stations. The station was owned and operated by the same family since its opening. Its historical importance was recognized when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 22, 1983. The station was a one-story, T-shaped frame building with intersecting gable roofs and a central gable forming a canopy over the gas pumps. The Schauer Filling Station was demolished in June 2013 and subsequently delisted from the National Register of Historic Places on June 14, 2017. This site is historically significant due to the automobile's impact on early Heights residents.
