historic place
The State National Bank Building is located at 412 Main Street in downtown Houston, Harris County, Texas. This high-rise office building was constructed in 1923. It was designed by architect Alfred C. Finn. The building exhibits a Classical Revival and Beaux Arts architectural style, also described as Neo-Classical. The State National Bank, which originated from the State Bank and Trust Company chartered in 1915, engaged the American Construction Company to build this skyscraper. Construction costs were estimated at $500,000. On August 11, 1982, the State National Bank Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It represents the work of an architect of regional importance and is one of the few surviving Neo-Classical skyscrapers in Houston. In recent years, the building has been converted into a Moxy by Marriott hotel, which opened in December 2023. This site matters historically as a significant example of early 20th-century bank architecture in Houston.
