historic place

The Sweeney, Coombs & Fredericks Building is located at 301 Main Street in Houston, Texas, within Harris County. Architect George E. Dickey designed this late-Victorian commercial building in 1889. It features a three-story corner turret and Eastlake decorative elements. The building originally housed the Sweeney and Coombs jewelry company; Gus Fredericks joined the firm before 1889. This structure is one of Houston's few remaining Victorian-style buildings. It was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. In 2009, it received a City of Houston Landmark designation. The building stands as a notable example of late 19th-century commercial architecture in Houston.
