Texas State Hotel

historic place

The Texas State Hotel, a historic place in downtown Houston, Harris County, was designed by architect Joseph Finger. This sixteen-story building, featuring a Spanish Plateresque revival style, began construction in 1926. It opened as the Texas State Hotel in the spring of 1929, after prominent businessman Jesse H. Jones purchased the unfinished property. The hotel was initially planned for the 1928 Democratic National Convention. After various ownership changes, the building underwent renovation and received a Good Brick Award in 2006. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 2008. Today, the structure operates as the Club Quarters Hotel Downtown Houston. This site is significant for its architecture and its role in Houston's early 20th-century development.
