The Logue House, Houston, Texas
historic place
The Logue House, located in Houston, Harris County, Texas, was constructed in 1923. This classically detailed domestic building was designed by prominent Houston architect William Ward Watkin for its owner, lawyer John G. Logue. The Logue House represents a trend in Houston domestic architecture from 1915 to 1925, characterized by high-style classical decoration and dark red, velour-faced brick. At one time, Rice University's Shepherd School of Music held classes within its walls. In 1988, the Federation of Italian-American Organizations of Greater Houston acquired the property. Today, it houses the Italian Cultural and Community Center. The National Park Service officially listed the Logue House on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. This site is significant for its architectural style and its role in the development of Houston's urban neighborhoods.
