The Lula J. Doughty House
historic place
The Lula J. Doughty House is a historic place located in Houston, Texas, within Harris County. This residence was constructed around 1906 in the Queen Anne architectural style. Lula J. Doughty, the home's namesake, was a teacher in Houston Heights for many years. In 1912, she became the first principal of Travis Elementary in Woodland Heights. She was serving as principal of Beauchamp Springs School when she purchased this home in 1909. The Lula J. Doughty House was individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places on July 17, 1990. It is also recognized as a City of Houston Landmark. This site is significant as an excellent example of an elaborate Queen Anne-influenced cottage, illustrating the type of upper-middle-class suburban homes once common in the Houston Heights area.
