The Perry-Swilley House

historic place

The Perry-Swilley House, a Queen Anne style residence in Houston, Harris County, Texas, was built in 1901. This one-and-a-half-story raised frame cottage features intersecting gables and an attached porch that wraps to both sides, supported by turned posts. Its windows have one-over-one lights, and it includes an interior chimney. The house was originally a wedding present for Ava Sumbardo and Philo Perry. Ava's father, C.L. Sumbardo, a farm real estate dealer, also resided here. Later, William Swilley, a prominent real estate agent, owned the home. Around 2008, the house was moved one lot north, from 1101 to 1103 Heights Boulevard, and placed on a new seven-foot tall foundation. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, it is also a City of Houston Historic Landmark. The Perry-Swilley House exemplifies early 20th-century residential architecture in the Houston Heights.
