The Sterling-Berry House

historic place

The Sterling-Berry House in Houston, Texas, is a recognized historic place. This two-story, red brick house was built in 1916. It was first occupied by Ross Sterling, a co-founder of Humble Oil and later a Texas governor. In 1919, a distinctive reinforced concrete front porch was added to the house. This porch was designed by H. Jordan MacKenzie from Alfred C. Finn's office. In 1934, Joel H. Berry, a Houston banker and civic leader, purchased the property. Berry also served on the Houston City Council. The Sterling-Berry House is a City of Houston Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
