The William A. Wilson House
historic place
The William A. Wilson House, located in Houston's Harris County, was constructed in 1910. This historic residence belonged to William A. Wilson, a notable Houston developer. Wilson founded the William A. Wilson Realty Company in 1898. He was instrumental in developing Houston neighborhoods such as Houston Heights, Woodland Heights, and Eastwood. Wilson was also known for planting many trees in his subdivisions. Situated at 205 Bayland Avenue, the Wilson House was the largest home on that street. Its design, characterized by a lack of historically derived detail and pronounced horizontality, aligns with the progressive school of Chicago. It is considered the only Prairie style house in the Woodland Heights neighborhood. William A. Wilson lived in the house until his death in 1928. His widow, Mary, resided there until 1938. In 2008, the William A. Wilson House was designated a City of Houston Protected Landmark. This house is significant for its association with a key early 20th-century Houston developer and its architectural style.
