Wimberly House, Houston, Texas
historic place
The Wimberly House, located at 703 Harvard Street in Houston, Texas, is a historic place in Harris County. This one-story frame L-shaped cottage was constructed around 1906. It exhibits Queen Anne architectural influences, featuring a pitched roof with a projecting gable-end bay and an attached porch. The porch is supported by turned posts with flatcut sawtooth fretwork and fanciful brackets. James Wimberly had this house built to be near his business, the Wimberly Brothers Grocery, located at 702 Heights Boulevard. The grocery store served as a community gathering place where residents also paid their taxes. The Wimberly House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 14, 1984, recognized for its architectural significance within the Historic Resources of Houston Heights. The house remains substantially intact and serves as an example of a simple cottage from its era.
