historic place

The Yale Street Bridge spans White Oak Bayou in Houston, Harris County. This historic place was erected in 1931. It is a concrete girder bridge featuring a neoclassical urn balustrade railing. The bridge was part of Houston's street improvement bond program during the 1930s. Bridge engineer J.G. McKenzie designed it, and J.P. Miller & Company constructed it. The Yale Street Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 30, 2011. It was recognized for its engineering significance as an example of City Beautiful design. The original bridge was later replaced, and bricks from the historic structure were incorporated into a new trail nearby. This bridge represents a period of infrastructure development in Houston and showcases City Beautiful design in engineered structures.
