Jacksonville Post Office
historic place
The Jacksonville Post Office, a significant historic place in Cherokee County, saw construction begin on September 10, 1932. This important federal building officially opened its doors on September 20, 1933. The United States Congress allocated $135,000 for its construction. Architects James A. Wetmore and P.A. Sanford designed the building in the Classical Revival style, incorporating popular Art Deco elements of the era. It holds the distinction of being the first federal building constructed within Cherokee County. Recognizing its architectural and governmental significance, the Jacksonville Post Office was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 14, 2004, approximately seventy years after its completion. Today, this landmark building, located at 402 East Rusk Street, continues to serve the community, now home to the Postmasters Coffee Company. It stands as a tangible example of Jacksonville's development and its architectural heritage.
