Henrietta M. King High School

historic place

Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville, Kleberg County, stands as a historic place. The original school building was completed in 1909. It served all grades within the Kingsville school system at that time. Henrietta M. King, the widow of King Ranch founder Captain Richard King, donated both the site and the funds for its construction. She passed away in 1925. The building's architecture reflects influences from the Alamo, Concepcion, and San Jose missions of San Antonio. In 1925, an interior fire necessitated rebuilding. Following this, the school was named for Mrs. King. It has remained in use as a public school since then. In 1981, the Texas Historical Commission erected a marker here, recognizing it as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. This site is significant for its architectural design and its continuous contribution to Kingsville's education.
