Kleberg County Courthouse

historic place

The Kleberg County Courthouse stands in Kingsville, Texas. This historic place was constructed in 1914. It was designed by architect Atlee B. Ayres, based in San Antonio. The courthouse was built one year after Kleberg County was organized in 1913. The county itself was named for Robert Justus Kleberg. This building has served as the county's only dedicated courthouse since its completion. Its design blends Classical Revival forms with Prairie School influences. At the time of its construction, it featured modern architectural elements. An annex was added to the rear of the building in 1966. The original jail was located on the third floor and remained in use until 1997. The Kleberg County Courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 10, 2010. For over ninety years, this courthouse has been central to Kleberg County government.
