Cora Jackman Donalson House

historic place

The Cora Jackman Donalson House, located in Kyle, Texas, is a historic place in Hays County. This two-story residence was built in 1913. Cora Frances Jackman, born in 1853, commissioned the house after the death of her husband, Chauncey B. Donalson. Her father, Sidney Drake Jackman, a Confederate general and later a state representative, settled his family in Hays County in 1865. The Wallace Bros. Lumber Company of Kyle constructed the house using a plan book from the Radford Architectural Company. The architecture combines Queen Anne and classical revival styles, evident in its cross gables, ionic columns, and bay windows. A historical marker was erected at the site in 2009. The house has remained largely unchanged since the 1930s. It is significant as the only documented house in Kyle built from a Radford Architectural Company catalog plan book, reflecting the residential development of Kyle in the early 20th century.
