Bacon, Warren and Myrta, House

historic place

The Warren and Myrta Bacon House is located at 1802 Broadway in Lubbock, Texas. This two-story brick home was built in 1916, designed by Amarillo architect W. M. Rice in a Colonial Revival style. It was constructed for Warren A. Bacon, a prominent Lubbock businessman and civic leader. He lived in this home from its completion until his death in 1938. His wife, Myrta Hunt Bacon, from a pioneer area family, resided here until her death in 1967. The residence was part of the Overton Addition, Lubbock's first residential addition. The Bacon family owned the home for over 65 years. In 1981, the Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas acquired the house, which now serves as their offices. The Warren and Myrta Bacon House became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1982. It was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 15, 1982. This house is significant for its architecture and its association with an early Lubbock family.
