Holden, William Curry and Olive Price, House

historic place

The William Curry and Olive Price Holden House, located in Lubbock, Texas, was constructed between 1930 and 1931. William Curry Holden, a professor of history and anthropology at Texas Technological College, and his wife, Olive Price Holden, built this distinctive home. Olive Holden also contributed to its design. The house reflects their admiration for Native American culture, showcasing the Pueblo Revival architectural style. It stands as the earliest and best-known example of this style in Lubbock. Constructed with a concrete foundation, earth-colored adobe walls, and an asphalt roof, the house retains a high degree of its original historical and architectural integrity. Also known as 'Casa Grande,' it was part of a complex of adobe buildings developed by the Holdens. The William Curry and Olive Price Holden House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. This site is significant for its unique architecture and its connection to the Holdens' contributions to the region.
