Inn at Brushy Creek, Old Round Rock, Texas
historic place
The Inn at Brushy Creek, a historic place in Old Round Rock, Texas, was constructed in 1848 by John Harris. Built with local limestone and cedar, it served as the Harris Stagecoach Inn. This Inn was a vital stop for stagecoaches, transporting mail and passengers on routes like Brownsville to Salado. It offered rest for travelers and a place for drivers to change horse teams. The Inn also functioned as a local post office and a community gathering spot. It hosted figures from Texas Rangers to outlaws like Sam Bass. In 2018, the City of Round Rock relocated the Inn from its original site to a new location along Brushy Creek on Chisholm Trail. This preserved the Inn during a road safety project. The Inn at Brushy Creek represents early Texas stagecoach architecture and Old Round Rock's role in frontier transportation.
