LaBorde House, Store and Hotel

historic place

In Rio Grande City, Starr County, stands the LaBorde House, Store and Hotel. French immigrant and merchant Francois LaBorde completed this complex in 1899. Originally designed in Paris, the property served as LaBorde's home, a general store, and an office. San Antonio architects oversaw its construction. Around 1917, LaBorde converted the complex into a hotel, adding a second story to the front buildings. The LaBorde Hotel opened that same year. After LaBorde's death in 1917, his family managed the hotel until its sale in 1939. It was then renamed the Ringgold Hotel. This historic place reflects the architectural influences of the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
