Buckeye Park Gate

historic place

At Buckeye Park in San Antonio, Texas, you'll find the Buckeye Park Gate. Erected around 1926, this gate is attributed to sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez. It is a work of faux bois, or 'false wood,' art. The approximately eight-and-a-half-foot-tall gate features two curving concrete 'tree trunks' with textured 'bark,' knots, and insect borings, meeting at an apex. The Buckeye Park Gate was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. It remains a significant local example of Rodriguez's unique artistic style.
