Burns Building, San Antonio, Texas
historic place
The Burns Building is located in San Antonio, Texas, in Bexar County. It was constructed in 1919. The building is named for Hugh Burns, who bought the property in 1913. His widow, Mary Clifford Burns, and their son Thomas, later developed the site. It originally opened as a department store, hosting retailers like Washer Brothers and J.C. Penney. The Burns Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2018, it underwent restoration, transforming into creative office space with ground-floor retail. This historic structure now contributes to San Antonio's tech district. It is notable as one of the country's early 'daylight stores,' designed to maximize natural light.
