Calcasieu Building
historic place
The Calcasieu Building stands in San Antonio, Texas, in Bexar County. This historic place was constructed in 1914. Noted San Antonio architect Atlee B. Ayres designed the building. It was built in the Chicago style as a six-story commercial building. Originally, it housed offices and retail spaces. In 1954, the Kallison family purchased the building and converted its upper floors into apartment units, renaming it the Kallison-Calcasieu Building. The upper floors continued to be used for rental apartments. After a period of vacancy in its upper floors starting in 1990, the Calcasieu Building underwent rehabilitation in 2016. Today, it offers various apartment floorplans. The Calcasieu Building is significant as an early example of a mid-rise 20th-century commercial office building and an important work by Atlee B. Ayres.
