Old Lone Star Brewery (Boundary Increase)

historic place

The Old Lone Star Brewery, a Historic Place in San Antonio, Bexar County, is located at 200 West Jones Avenue. The Lone Star Brewing Association established its first large mechanized brewery here in 1883, producing beer by 1884. This architecturally distinct complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Brewing operations ceased in 1917. In 1971, the San Antonio Museum Association acquired the property, transforming it into the San Antonio Museum of Art. On September 25, 1979, a boundary increase expanded the historic designation. This addition included four structures: the boiler and equipment room, the ice manufacturing plant, the horse stable and vehicle storage, and the employee wash house. These buildings were incorporated after the property's sale to the Museum Association. The Old Lone Star Brewery complex illustrates San Antonio's industrial heritage and its adaptive reuse.
