The A. H. Halff House
historic place
The A. H. Halff House, a historic place in San Antonio, Bexar County, was built in 1904. It served as the home of Alexander Hart Halff, a merchant, banker, rancher, and civic leader, and his wife, Alma Oppenheimer Halff. Both were from prominent local families. Architects C.A. Coughlin and Atlee B. Ayres designed the residence. Its architecture combines late 19th-century elements with early 20th-century modernism, featuring a pressed metal roof and boxed eaves. The Halff family lived in the house until 1963. After a 1984 fire, it was restored in 1985 and converted to office use. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. A historical marker was erected in 1997, recognizing it as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. This site is significant for its architecture and its connection to the Halff family.
