Thiele House and Thiele Cottage

historic place

In San Antonio, Bexar County, stand the historic Thiele House and Thiele Cottage. The Thiele House, a simple, rectangular structure, reflects the mid-19th century Settlement style. Improvements were made to this house in the mid-1800s. The Thiele Cottage, an elegant Victorian building, was constructed in 1890 for August Thiele, Jr.. Architect James Riely Gordon designed the cottage, featuring a distinctive wagon-bow arch on its porch. The Thiele family owned the cottage for eight decades. Both structures became City of San Antonio Landmarks in 1980. They were listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The Thiele Cottage received a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark designation in 1984. These buildings collectively illustrate San Antonio's architectural evolution.
