Travelers Hotel, San Antonio, Texas
historic place
The Travelers Hotel in San Antonio, Texas, is located at 220 Broadway. This seven-story building was completed in 1914. It was originally conceived as an upscale, extended-stay establishment, primarily serving business travelers, and was advertised as the 'travelling men's home'. The hotel also accommodated family travelers. Its construction featured reinforced concrete with a brick veneer and classical terra-cotta detailing, incorporating fireproof construction techniques. The ground floor included retail spaces and a lobby, with guestrooms on the upper floors. The Travelers Hotel is recognized as an important local example of a mid-rise commercial building from the early 20th century, contributing to the architectural character of the Broadway corridor. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. By 2014, the hotel served as lodging for transients. After an extensive renovation, it reopened in August 2017 as the Best Western Premier Historic Travelers Hotel. This site represents a significant part of San Antonio's urban development and its commitment to preserving historic commercial architecture.
