Wright, L. T., House
historic place
The L. T. Wright House, a historic place in San Antonio, Bexar County, was built in 1917. This one-story residence, located at 342 Wilkins Avenue, showcases the Prairie style of architecture. Lawrence T. Wright, a prominent San Antonio contractor, commissioned its design. Architect George Willis, who had previously worked for four years in Frank Lloyd Wright's studio, designed the home. His experience is reflected in the house's Midwestern Prairie character, with its distinctive low-pitched roof and wide, projecting eaves. Inside, decorative painter Fred Donecker added unique interior stenciling and murals depicting local San Antonio scenes. The L. T. Wright House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 1, 1983. This site is significant as one of Texas's finest examples of Prairie-school architecture, closely reflecting the early work of Frank Lloyd Wright.
