Yturri-Edmunds House
historic place
The Yturri-Edmunds House is a historic place in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. The land was originally part of Mission Concepcion. Manuel Yturri Castillo received the land grant from the Mexican Government in 1824. The adobe-block house was built between 1840 and 1860. It is one of the few adobe-block houses remaining in San Antonio. A notable feature is that north rooms of the structure span a lateral from the Pajalache acequia. This acequia, an irrigation system, was built around 1730. Ernestine E. Edmunds, a granddaughter of Manuel Yturri Castillo, willed the property to the San Antonio Conservation Society. The Society took possession in December 1961. The Yturri-Edmunds House and mill were designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1966. Today, the site operates as a museum, preserving a rare example of early San Antonio architecture and historical land use.
