The Selma Stagecoach Stop and Post Office is a historic place in Selma, Bexar County, Texas. The building was constructed around 1850. It became part of the Harrison and McCulloch stage line in 1851. This line, a partnership between John S. Harrison and William McCulloch, transported passengers and mail throughout central Texas. One significant route was Star Route 6285, which ran from Austin to San Antonio. In 1852, this journey took eighteen hours. Selma opened its first post office in 1856. John S. Harrison, a stage line partner, served as Selma's first postmaster for two years. The building itself is an example of 'limecrete construction,' a process using wooden forms and a mixture of sand and pebbles from the nearby Rio Cibolo, with shards of wood and corncobs added for strength. The stage stop and post office remained in use until 1906. This site illustrates Selma's role as a vital transportation and communication hub in 19th-century Texas.
