Missouri, Kansas and Texas (MK&T-Katy) Railway Passenger Depot
historic place
The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway Passenger Depot, known as the Katy Depot, stands in Temple, Texas. This historic building was constructed in 1913. It features a distinctive three-story tower. This tower gave the Katy Depot architectural prominence in Temple, a city where the Santa Fe railroad was dominant. The Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad, or 'the Katy,' was a key railway. It entered Texas from the north in 1872. Temple was founded as a railroad city in 1881, and the Katy line reached it in 1882. Katy passenger service ended in 1965. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. It became a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2021. The City of Temple now owns the building, using it for storage. This depot is an important part of Temple's railroad history.
