Crescent Laundry, Tyler, Texas
historic place
The Crescent Laundry building in Tyler, Texas, is a significant historic place. Built in 1928, it is Tyler's only known example of Exotic Revival style architecture. The building features a distinctive dome and a crescent moon above its exterior door, which was the company's logo. Crescent Laundry Company operated from 1923 to 2000, becoming Smith County's first and largest dry cleaning business. It contributed to Tyler's economy, notably during the 1930s oil boom and World War II, when it served Camp Fannin. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 and received local historic designation in 2018. Now housing Smith County facilities, its unique design and economic impact underscore its historical value to the community.
